The Shasta Historical Society hosts a history themed story time on the second Saturday of each month. About 30-45 minutes in length, it is appropriate for children ten and under. Older children are of course welcome, too! This month’s selection: Women of Our Time: Amelia Earhart, Courage in the Sky by Mona Kerby. Read by Kelsey Farquhar. As a child, Amelia Earhart wondered why there were no heroines in her favorite adventure stories. She resolved to change that when she grew up. And so, she did, becoming one of the pioneers of aviation. Not only was Amelia Earhart the first woman in the world to fly across the Atlantic Ocean she was the first person to cross it twice. Her life became a great adventure story—and a great mystery, too. In 1937, on an around-the-world flight, Amelia disappeared. Today, her courage and sprit remain an inspiration to everyone who flies or dreams of adventure.
