CONFESSIONS OF A NIGHTINGALE Famed American playwright Tennessee Williams comes to life on Axiom’s stage in the seductive and revelatory play, Confessions of a Nightingale. Though written by Charlotte Chandler and adapted by Ray Stricklyn, every line in the show is by Williams himself, and dives deep into the personal and professional life, loves, and relationships of one of America’s most fabled writers. The New York Post called Confessions “illuminating,” Time Magazine said it was “Ingratiatingly salty,” while The Hollywood Reporter deemed it “A thrilling evening,” with the Los Angeles Herald Examiner concluding, “Tennessee would have loved it.” —— I GOT SICK THEN I GOT BETTER I Got Sick Then I Got Better is the revolutionary and comic riff on one woman’s adventures after falling down the medical rabbit hole. Diagnosed with and treated for ovarian cancer, Jenny tells her story of the harrowing tailspin she took following her diagnosis, combining biting humor with searing emotion in a witty, bittersweet monologue that limns the personal and family collateral damage a life-threatening illness brings. The New York Times said that the play “Speaks with passion and precision.” Time Out NY wrote that the show “is remarkably free of sap, digging out comic nuggets from the medical mire and delivering them with the easy intimacy of a dinner-party hostess.” And TheatreMania.com stated “Ovarian cancer isn’t a subject you normally laugh about, but you’d be hard-pressed not to do so. [the show] excels in a kind of wry irony that combines wit with a keen attention to detail.”
